Everybody has heard of The Who or heard a couple of their songs and rock music lovers know every one of their hundreds of songs and albums. There are some facts about The Who that many do not know and will find very interesting. They won several great awards and accolades from different known and renowned Industries and Foundations. Their first release in 1965 also became first hit called, I Can’t Explain. It was followed by Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere and their debut album called My Generation. Townsend is the man who wrote all their earlier singles and addressed teenage angst and sexual tension.

Interestingly enough they had a few names and two members of the famous band, John Entwistle and Pete Townsend started a band, The Confederates in 1962. Roger Daltrey asked the two to join him with his band, The Detours who had two other members, Doug Sandom and Colin Dawson and only in 1964 after Sandom and Dawson left they got in Keith Moon as drummer. Then they officially became The Who in 1964 and that year they felt like a change again and became The High Numbers and after their single Zoot Suit/I’m the face, failed they reverted back being The Who. Their gimmick was instrument destruction after Townsend, angered, smashed his guitar during a London concert on stage. During the next concert Moon wrecked his drum kit and for several years they continued to smash an instrument at each show.
